David has over 30 years of international experience as an architect planner and
urban designer. His numerous projects range in scale from light fixtures and residential
remodels to an international airport and a new city in Saudi Arabia.
He has been a lecturer and design critic at several universities including Harvard,
Boston University, UC Berkeley and MIT where he earned Masters degrees in both Architecture
and City Planning.
Before moving to the Monterey Peninsula in 1976, David was a Participating Associate
with the firm of Skidmore Owings & Merrill in their Boston and Washington, D.C.
offices. Working with local firms, he was project designer on several award-winning
projects including the Hotel Pacific, Cypress Community Church and the Palma Grove
Homes at Markham Ranch.
Since the opening of his own office in 1989, David has focused primarily on residential
projects, resort development and small commercial projects. He has received design
awards from the Monterey Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for
the LaCroix Residence in Carmel, the Sheppard Studio in Pebble Beach and the Harris
Residence in Carmel Valley. He also won an award from the California-Nevada Chapter
of the American Concrete Institute for a rammed earth structure, the Loan-Kozain
Residence in Salinas. And David has won two Heritage Awards from the Heritage Society
of Pacific Grove for the Grove Homescapes Building and the Lester Residence. His
projects have been published in several books and magazines including Progressive
Architecture and Sunset.
In addition to full architectural services, David offers design consulting on an
hourly basis for those who need ideas and professional advice in the areas of site
selection, space planning, exterior design, approval processes, building code questions,
evaluation of plans, selection of contractors or just brainstorming ideas for upgrading
and/or increasing the saleability of a property.
